Therefore continue to give warning, for by the grace of your Lord, you are not a soothsayer or a madman. 29 Or do they say:- "A Poet! we await for him some calamity (hatched) by Time!" 30 Proclaim, “Go on waiting – I too am waiting along with you.” 31 Do their minds command them to do this, or are they an outrageous folk? 32 Or say they: He hath invented it? Nay, but they will not believe! 33 Let them produce a discourse like it if they are true in their claim. 34 Were they created of nothing, or were they themselves the creators? 35 Did they create the heavens and the earth? No! They have no faith. 36 Do they own the treasures of your Lord, or have they been given charge of them? 37 Or have they a ladder by which they could [ascend to ultimate truths and] listen [to what is beyond the reach of human perception]? Let, then, any of them who have listened [to it] produce a manifest proof [of his knowledge]! 38 What! The daughters for Him, and the sons for you? 39 Or is it that [they who reject thy message, O Muhammad, fear lest] thou ask of them a reward, so that they would be burdened with debt [if they should listen to thee]? 40 Or is it that they have access to (the Truths in) the realm beyond sense-perception which they are writing down? 41 Or do they want to stage a deception? -- Then only those who do not believe will be the ones who will be tricked. 42 Or do they have a god apart from God? He is too exalted for what they associate with Him! 43 And if they were to see a piece of the heaven falling down, they would say: "Clouds gathered in heaps!" 44 so leave them alone till they face the Day on which they will be struck dumb, 45 The Day when their guile shall not relieve them a thing, and they shall not be helped. 46 And verily, for those who do wrong, there is a punishment beyond that. But most of them know not. 47 Wait patiently for the command of your Lord. We are watching over you. Glorify your Lord when you rise during the night 48 And for part of the night also praise thou Him,- and at the retreat of the stars! 49
