The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 there is no denying its coming 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 So they will become like fine dust, scattered in a shaft of light. 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And (then) those on the left hand; what of those on the left hand? 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 In gardens of delight; 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 reclining on them, arrayed face to face; 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 The like of the hidden pearls: 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 (Naught) but the saying: Peace, (and again) Peace. 26 The Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 Bananatrees, piled 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 near to flowing water 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And on Thrones (of Dignity), raised high. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For those on the right hand; 38
