He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 (He might) remember, and the Reminder might profit him. 4 As for him who thinketh himself independent, 5 To him dost thou attend; 6 though you are not to be blamed if he would not purify himself -- 7 But as for he who came to you striving [for knowledge] 8 and who has fear of God, 9 you ignore him. 10 By no means! Verily it is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills, let him pay attention to it. 12 It is contained in scrolls highly honoured, 13 exalted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Noble and pious. 16 Cursed is man; how disbelieving is he. 17 From what has God created him? 18 Of a drop of seed. He created him and formed him according to a measure. 19 and made the path of guidance easy for him to follow. 20 Then He caused him to die and be buried 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man reflect on the food he eats. 24 It is We Who pour forth water, pouring, 25 and split the earth, splitting, 26 and thereupon We cause grain to grow out of it, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 and olive trees and date-palms, 29 Orchards thick with trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 For use and convenience to you and your cattle. 32 When the trumpet sounds, 33 on that Day a man shall flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every man, that Day, will be a matter adequate for him. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news. 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
