Didst thou (O Muhammad) observe him who turned away, 33 And gave a little, then stopped (giving)? 34 Is with him knowledge of the unseen so that he seeth? 35 Nay, is he not acquainted with what is in the Books of Moses- 36 And of Abraham who fulfilled his engagements?- 37 That no soul shall bear another's burden, 38 and that a man shall have to his account only as he has laboured, 39 And that his striving shall soon be seen- 40 and will be fully recompensed for his deeds. 41 That to thy Lord is the final Goal; 42 That it is He who makes you happy and morose, 43 And that He it is Who giveth death and giveth life; 44 That He did create in pairs,- male and female, 45 from an ejaculated drop (of sperm), 46 and that upon Him is the second creation 47 It is He who grants people temporary and durable wealth. 48 That He is the Lord of Sirius (the Mighty Star); 49 It is He who utterly destroyed the ancient tribes of Ad, 50 And the Thamud nor gave them a lease of perpetual life. 51 And also the people of Nuh aforetime. Verily they were even greater wrong-doers and more contumacious. 52 and He overthrew the subverted cities [of Sodom and Gomorrah] 53 and then covered them from sight forever. 54 Then which of the gifts of thy Lord, (O man,) wilt thou dispute about? 55 This is a warning among the warnings of yore. 56 The threatened Hour is nigh. 57 There is no one to unveil it apart from God. 58 Does this statement seem strange to them 59 Or do you laugh, and do you not weep 60 Will you occupy yourselves simply in merriment? 61 So prostrate yourselves before Allah and worship. ۩ 62
