Al-Balad
The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
۞ I swear by this city (Mecca) – 1 in which you are now living 2 or by the great father and his wonderful son (Abraham and Ishmael) 3 Certainly We have created man to be in distress. 4 Thinks he that none can overcome him? 5 And he saith: I have destroyed vast wealth: 6 Thinks he that none sees him? 7 Have We not given him two eyes, 8 a tongue, and two lips, 9 and shown him the two paths? 10 But he would not attempt the uphill road, 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 It is freeing the neck, 13 Or to feed in times of famine 14 An orphan, of kin, 15 or a needy man in misery; 16 Then he became of those who believed and enjoined on each other steadfastness and enjoined on each other compassion. 17 These are the People of the Right Hand. 18 But those who deny Our revelations are the people of the left hand: 19 Over them will be fire closed in. 20
God the Almighty always says the truth.
