In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
CONSIDER these [messages,] sent forth in waves 1 by (the angels) as swift as blowing winds, 2 and by the scatterers scattering (rain) 3 Then by those that clearly differentiate the right and wrong. 4 and then giving forth a reminder, 5 To complete the argument or to warn. 6 surely that which you are promised is about to fall! 7 So when the stars are put out, 8 And when the heaven is rent asunder, 9 and the mountains scattered, 10 And when the apostles are gathered at their appointed time 11 For what day is it timed? 12 For the Day of Distinction [between the true and the false]! 13 And what will explain to you what is the Day of sorting out? 14 Woe on that day unto the beliers 15 Did We not destroy the former peoples? 16 and then follow them with the later folk? 17 So We serve the sinners. 18 Woe unto the repudiators on that day! 19 Did We not create you from contemptible water? 20 Then We lodged you in a secure place (the womb) 21 Till an appointed term, 22 So We decreed. How excellent are We as decreers! 23 Woe unto the repudiators on that day! 24 Have We not caused the earth to hold within itself 25 For the living and the dead, 26 And We placed therein lofty, firmly set mountains and have given you to drink sweet water. 27 Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth! 28 Depart to that you cried was lies! 29 Proceed to a shadow rising in three columns: 30 Neither shading nor availing against the flame. 31 Lo! it throweth up sparks like the castles, 32 As if they were yellowish [black] camels. 33 Woe on that Day to those that give the lie to the Truth! 34 That will be a Day when they shall not be able to speak. 35 neither be given leave, and excuse themselves. 36 Woe on that day unto the beliers! 37 that Day of Distinction [between the true and the false, when they will be told]: "We have brought you together with those [sinners] of olden times; 38 So if you have a plan, plan against Me (now). 39 Ah woe, that Day, to the Rejecters of Truth! 40
