The Town (Al-Balad)

20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

۞ I swear by this city, Makkah - 1 And thou art a freeman of this City;- 2 and by parent and offspring, 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Deemest he that none will overpower him? 5 He shall say: I have wasted much wealth. 6 What, does he think none has seen him? 7 Did We not grant him two eyes, 8 And a tongue and two lips, 9 Have We not shown him the ways of good and evil? 10 But he could not scale the steep ascent. 11 And what will make you comprehend what the uphill road is? 12 (It is:) freeing the bondman; 13 or, in a day of famine, the feeding of 14 To an orphan near of kin. 15 Or a poor man cleaving to the dust. 16 And then being among those who believed and advised one another to patience and advised one another to compassion. 17 These are the people of the right hand. 18 And those who disbelieve in Our signs, they are the Companions of the Left Hand; 19 On them is fire closed over. 20
