Ad gave the lie to the apostles. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: "Will you not fear Allah and obey Him? 124 I am for you a faithful Messenger, 125 Fear Allah and obey me. 126 I do not ask for any payment for my preaching. I shall receive my reward from the Lord of the Universe. 127 Build ye on every high place a monument for vain delight? 128 And take for yourselves palaces and fortresses that you might abide eternally? 129 And when you strike, you strike as tyrants. 130 "Now fear Allah, and obey me. 131 fear Him who has aided you with all that you know -- 132 Hath aided you with cattle and sons. 133 And gardens and fountains; 134 I fear for you the chastisement of an Awesome Day." 135 They said: it is equal unto us whether thou admonishest or art not of the admonishers. 136 this is nothing but a habit of the ancients: 137 They rejected him and We destroyed them. 138 So they rejected him; and We destroyed them. There is certainly a sign in that; but most of them would not believe. 139 Yet surely your Lord is mighty and merciful. 140
