۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 "Besides Allah, and lead them to the Way to the (Fierce) Fire! 23 And stop them, for they must be questioned. 24 “What is the matter with you, that you do not help one another?” 25 But they, that Day, are in surrender. 26 And they will advance toward each other mutually questioning. 27 They shall say: Surely you used to come to us from the right side. 28 They will say: "No, you were the ones who would not believe. 29 "Nor had we any authority over you. Nay, it was ye who were a people in obstinate rebellion! 30 So the sentence of our Lord has come to pass against us: (now) we shall surely taste; 31 So we led you astray, for we ourselves were erring. 32 So they shall on that day be sharers in the chastisement one with another. 33 Lo! thus deal We with the guilty. 34 Indeed they, when it was said to them, "There is no deity but Allah," were arrogant 35 And said: "Should we abandon our gods for the sake of an insane poet?" 36 (They say so although) he brought the Truth and confirmed the veracity of the Messengers. 37 you shall surely taste the painful punishment, 38 And you will not be recompensed except for what you used to do - 39 But the chosen servants of God; 40 Those! theirs shall be a provision known: 41 fruits -- and they high-honoured 42 In gardens of delight, 43 facing one another [in love] upon thrones of happiness. 44 Round shall be passed a cup unto them filled with limpid drink: 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 wherein no sickness is, neither intoxication; 47 and with them wide-eyed maidens restraining their glances 48 like closely guarded pearls. 49 Then they will turn to one another and question one another. 50 A speaker of them saith: Lo! I had a comrade 51 who used to ask, 'Do you really believe that 52 When we are dead and have become dust and bones, are we indeed going to be requited? 53 He will say, "Would you [care to] look?" 54 And he will look and see him in the midst of the Hellfire. 55 He shall say: By Allah! you had almost caused me to perish; 56 Had it not been for the grace of my Lord I too would have been there (in Hell). 57 What then, shall we not die 58 "Except our first death, and that we shall not be punished?" 59 Truly, this is the supreme success! 60 For the like of it should the workers work. 61 Is that (Paradise) better entertainment or the tree of Zaqqum (a horrible tree in Hell)? 62 Indeed, We have made it a torment for the wrongdoers. 63 Indeed, it is a tree issuing from the bottom of the Hellfire, 64 Its spathes are like the prickly pear. 65 and they [who are lost in evil] are indeed bound to eat thereof, and to fill their bellies therewith. 66 then on top of it they have a brew of boiling water, 67 then their return is unto Hell. 68 They had indeed found their forefathers astray. 69 So they hastily follow their footsteps! 70 Thus, indeed, most of the people of old went astray before them, 71 And certainly We sent among them warners. 72 Then see what was the end of those who were warned (but heeded not). 73 But not the chosen servants of Allah. 74
