The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 Then none will be able to deny its occurrence. 2 (it will) abase (some) and exalt (others). 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 [on that Day] you shall be divided into three groups. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 and only a few of them from the later generations. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and spreading shade 30 And water everflowing. 31 And abundant fruit, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
