The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the event befalleth - 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains shall be made to crumble with (an awful) crumbling, 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 So those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 in the Gardens of Bliss. 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 With bowls and ewers and a cup from a pure spring 18 (no brows throbbing, no intoxication) 19 And fruits such as they choose, 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 Among thorn-less lote-trees. 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 Lengthened shadows, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 on raised couches. 34 Perfectly We formed them, perfect, 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 For those of the right hand. 38
