The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event (i.e. the Day of Resurrection) befalls. 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 And you (all) will be in three kinds (i.e. separate groups). 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 Then the foremost, how pre-excellent, 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 a good many of those of olden times, 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 On thrones decorated, 15 Reclining therein face to face. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 Wherefrom they will get neither any aching of the head, nor any intoxication. 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 And with flesh of fowls from that which they desire. 21 And gorgeous eyed fair maidens. 22 like unto pearls [still] hidden in their shells. 23 Reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 but only the saying: 'Peace, Peace' 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and flowing water 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 For those of the right hand. 38
