The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O thou enveloped in thy cloak, 1 Arise, and warn, 2 and exalt your Lord, 3 And your garments do purify, 4 And banish all trepidation. 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 and be patient unto thy Lord. 7 When the trumpet is sounded,. 8 that shall be a Harsh Day 9 For the infidels, not easy. 10 Leave Me alone [to deal] with him whom I have created alone, 11 And for whom I appointed wealth extended. 12 And sons abiding in his presence 13 And made several preparations for him. 14 and yet, he greedily desires that I give yet more! 15 Nay! For lo! he hath been stubborn to Our revelations. 16 We shall make him suffer the torment of hell without relief. 17 For he thought and he plotted -- 18 And woe to him! How he plotted!- 19 Again, death seized him, how was his determining! 20 Then he thought; 21 Then he frowned and scowled, 22 Then turned he back, and grew stiff-necked. 23 and said, "This is nothing but sorcery from the ancients. 24 'this is nothing but mortal speech.' 25 I shall make him suffer the torment of hell. 26 And what do you know what Hell is? 27 It spares not (any sinner), nor does it leave (anything unburnt)! 28 It glows and burns the skin. 29 Above it are nineteen. 30 We have appointed only angels to be masters of the Fire, and their number We have appointed only as a trial for the unbelievers, that those who were given the Book may have certainty, and that those who believe may increase in belief, and that those who were given the Book and those who believe may not be in-doubt, and that those in whose hearts there is sickness, and the unbelievers, may say, 'What did God intend by this as a similitude?' So God leads astray whomsoever He will, and He guides whomsoever He will; and none knows the hosts of thy Lord but He. And it is naught but a Reminder to mortals. 31
