The Ad gave the lie to the Messengers. 123 When their brother Hud said to them: Will you not guard (against evil)? 124 "I am to you a messenger worthy of all trust: 125 "So fear Allah, keep your duty to Him, and obey me. 126 "No reward do I ask of you for it: my reward is only from the Lord of the Worlds. 127 What, do you build on every prominence a sign, sporting, 128 and erect castles hoping that you will live forever. 129 And when ye seize, ye seize like unto tyrants. 130 So fear you God, and obey you me; 131 Have fear of Him Who has provided you with all the (good) things you know; 132 Who has provided you with flocks and children 133 gardens, and springs. 134 for, verily, I fear lest suffering befall you on an awesome day!" 135 They said, "It is all the same to us whether you advise or are not of the advisors. 136 "This is no other than the false-tales and religion of the ancients, [Tafsir At-Tabari, Vol. 19, Page 97] 137 And we are not to be punished." 138 So they gave him the lie, then We destroyed them. Most surely there is a sign in this, but most of them do not believe. 139 Surely your Lord is the Mighty One, the Merciful. 140
