The Hidden Secret (Al-Muddath-thir)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
O you who are clothed! 1 Arise, and warn. 2 And thy Lord do thou magnify! 3 thy robes purify 4 and defilement flee! 5 And bestow not favors that you may receive again with increase, 6 And be patient for the sake of your Lord (i.e. perform your duty to Allah)! 7 For when the trumpet blows 8 Truly, that Day will be a Hard Day. 9 Dolorous for the unbelievers. 10 Let Me alone with him whom I created lonely. 11 and to whom I have granted resources in abundance, 12 and sons to be by his side, 13 And spread [everything] before him, easing [his life]. 14 Then he desires that I should add more. 15 Not at all! Surely, he has been disobedient to Our verses. 16 I shall force him to endure a painful uphill climb! 17 Surely he reflected and guessed, 18 Ruin seize him, how did he hatch a scheme? 19 Let him be destroyed. How he calculated! 20 Then he looked round; 21 frowned and scowled, 22 Then he turned back and was arrogant 23 And said: "This is nothing but the magic of old, 24 "This is nothing but the word of a mortal!" 25 Soon will I cast him into Hell-Fire! 26 What do you think Hell-fire is? 27 It leaves naught nor does it spare aught. 28 It strips away the hide of man. 29 Over it are nineteen. 30 And We have not made the wardens of the fire others than angels, and We have not made their number but as a trial for those who disbelieve, that those who have been given the book may be certain and those who believe may increase in faith, and those who have been given the book and the believers may not doubt, and that those in whose hearts is a disease and the unbelievers may say: What does Allah mean by this parable? Thus does Allah make err whom He pleases, and He guides whom He pleases, and none knows the hosts of your Lord but He Himself; and this is naught but a reminder to the mortals. 31
