He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he may accept advice, so the advice may benefit him. 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 you eagerly attended to him -- 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 And to him who came to you eagerly 8 and fears (Allah), 9 him didst thou disregard! 10 Indeed, this [Quran] is an admonition. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 (It is) in Books held (greatly) in honour, 13 uplifted, purified, 14 In the hands of scribes 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 From what substance did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then when He listeth, He shall raise him to life. 22 Nay, but (man) has not done what He commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, (and how We provide it): 24 We let the rain pour down in torrents 25 and let the earth to break open 26 then caused the grain to grow out of it, 27 grapes, and fresh fodder, 28 And Olives and Dates, 29 And thick gardens, 30 fruits, and grass. 31 for you and for your animals to enjoy. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 it will be such a day when a person will run away from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 And his wife and his children, 36 For every one of them on that Day shall be business enough to occupy 37 (Many) faces on that day shall be bright, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 And other faces, on that day, with dust upon them, 40 Dust shall cover them 41 Those! they are the infidels, the ungodly. 42
