Nay, verily: By the Moon, 32 And by oath of the night when it turns back. 33 By the morning when it brighteneth. 34 Surely it (hell) is one of the gravest (misfortunes), 35 Warn the men. 36 To any of you that chooses to go forward (by working righteous deeds), or to remain behind (by commiting sins), 37 Each soul is held in pledge for what it earns, 38 except those of the right hand 39 in Gardens they will question 40 and will ask of the criminals, 41 'What thrusted you into Sakar?' 42 They will say: we have not been of those who prayed. 43 Nor did we feed the wretched. 44 And we used to enter into vain discourse with those who engaged [in it], 45 And we used to call the day of judgment a lie; 46 till the certainty (death) overtook us' 47 So no intercession of intercessors will be of any use to them. 48 If such will be the Day of Judgment, what is the matter with them? Why do they run away from guidance, 49 like startled wild donkeys 50 Fleeing from a lion? 51 Indeed, each one of them desires to be given unrolled scrolls. 52 Nay! But they fear not the Hereafter (from Allah's punishment). 53 Nay, verily, this is an admonition 54 Let anyone who seeks guidance do so. 55 But none will remember, unless Allah wills, He is the Owner of fear, the Owner of forgiveness. 56
