The News (Al-Naba')
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ ABOUT WHAT do they [most often] ask one another? 1 They quarrel about the great news 2 that they are in utter disagreement? 3 No! They are going to know. 4 Again, indeed, they shall know! 5 Have We not made the earth as a place to rest 6 and the mountains as pegs? 7 And We created you in pairs, 8 and We have made your sleep [a symbol of] death 9 made the night as a covering, 10 and made the day [a symbol of] life. 11 And We built above you seven strong ones, 12 and have placed [therein the sun,] a lamp full of blazing splendour. 13 And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water 14 So that We bring forth thereby corn and vegetation. 15 And gardens of thick growth. 16 Verily, the Day of Decision is a fixed time, 17 the Day when the trumpet [of resurrection] is sounded and you all come forward in multitudes; 18 And the heaven shall be opened so that it shall be all openings, 19 The mountains will be driven away and become like mirages. 20 Truly Hell is as a place of ambush, 21 a resort for the rebellious; 22 Where they will remain for aeons, 23 They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink 24 save boiling water and a stinking fluid -- 25 a befitting recompense for their deeds. 26 For lo! they looked not for a reckoning; 27 and they absolutely belied Our verses, 28 And everything have We recorded in a Book. 29 So taste! for We will not add to you aught but chastisement. 30
