He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away. 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 And what do you know, he may be of the pure! 3 or yet remember, and the Reminder profit him. 4 For him who does not care, 5 to a rich man, 6 although thou art not accountable for his failure to attain to purity; 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and in awe [of God] 9 From him thou art distracted. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 So whoever wishes may remember it. 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted, purified, 14 (Set down) by scribes 15 noble and virtuous scribes. 16 Perish Man! How unthankful he is! 17 From what did He create him? 18 From a sperm-drop: He hath created him, and then mouldeth him in due proportions; 19 and then makes it easy for him to go through life; 20 Then He causeth him to die, and putteth him in his grave; 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Certainly, he has not duly fulfilled His commands. 23 Let man, then, consider [the sources of] his food: 24 how We pour down rain in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and herbage 28 And olives and date-palms, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and Abba (herbage, etc.), 31 In order to benefit you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 That Day shall a man flee from his own brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day, to every one of them will his own state be of sufficient concern. 37 On that day faces will be bright as dawn, 38 Laughing, rejoicing at good news; 39 but others will be gloomy 40 and veiled with darkness. 41 Such will be the Rejecters of Allah, the doers of iniquity. 42
