He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because the blind man had come in his august presence. 2 How canst thou know, whether haply he might be cleansed, 3 Or be admonished, and the admonition profit him? 4 As for him who thinks himself self-sufficient, 5 to him thou attendest 6 Yet it is not thy concern if he grow not (in grace). 7 But as to him who came to thee striving earnestly, 8 and who has fear of God, 9 Of him wast thou unmindful. 10 These verses are a reminder 11 (and whoso wills, shall remember it) 12 On honoured leaves 13 exalted, purified, 14 by the hands of scribes 15 Noble and righteous. 16 [But only too often] man destroys himself: how stubbornly does he deny the truth! 17 [Does man ever consider] out of what substance [God] creates him? 18 Of a small seed; He created him, then He made him according to a measure, 19 Then (as for) the way-- He has made it easy (for him) 20 then makes him to die, and buries him, 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 Nay; but he has not done what He bade him. 23 So man must look at his food. 24 For that We pour forth water in abundance, 25 And We split the earth in fragments, 26 We make the grain grow out of it, 27 And grapes and vegetables 28 olives, dates, 29 and burgeoning enclosed gardens 30 And fruits and herbage: 31 A provision for you and for your cattle. 32 But when the great calamity comes 33 on that Day each person will flee from his brother, 34 And his mother and his father, 35 And his wife and his children, 36 on that Day each will be occupied with his own business, making him oblivious of all save himself. 37 Many faces will that day be bright, 38 Laughing, joyous. 39 but some faces will be covered with dust 40 Covered with the blackness (of shame): 41 These will be the unbelievers, the wicked. 42
