He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ He frowned and turned away 1 Because there came to him the blind man (i.e. 'Abdullah bin Umm-Maktum, who came to the Prophet (Peace be upon him) while he was preaching to one or some of the Quraish chiefs). 2 What could inform thee but that he might grow (in grace) 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Now he who waxes indifferent, 5 you attend to him, 6 And you have nothing to lose if he does not become pure. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 While he fears [Allah], 9 you pay no heed to him. 10 No indeed; this is only a Reminder. 11 So whoever wills may remember it. 12 Inscribed in Writs honoured, 13 Exalted, purified, 14 (Written) by the hands of scribes- 15 Honourable and Pious and Just. 16 Woe to man! How ungrateful he is! 17 Of what substance God created him? 18 From a sperm-drop He created him and destined for him; 19 Then the way He made easy. 20 Then He causes his death and provides a grave for him. 21 Then, when it is His Will, He will raise him up (again). 22 By no means hath he fulfilled what Allah hath commanded him. 23 Then let man look at his food, 24 That We pour forth water in abundance, 25 Then We cracked the earth open under pressure (of germination) 26 how We made the grain to grow, 27 And Grapes and nutritious plants, 28 and olives and palms, 29 And gardens, dense with many trees, 30 and fruits and pastures – 31 for you and for your herds to delight in. 32 But when the deafening cry shall be sounded 33 On the Day whereon a man shall flee from his brother, 34 and his mother and his father; 35 and his consort and his children; 36 Every man of them shall on that day have an affair which will occupy him. 37 Some faces on that Day shall be beaming with happiness, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And other faces that Day will be dust-stained, 40 and covered by darkness. 41 Such will be the Kafarah (disbelievers in Allah, in His Oneness, and in His Messenger Muhammad (Peace be upon him), etc.), the Fajarah (wicked evil doers). 42
