The Town (Al-Balad)
20 verses, revealed in Mecca after Q (Qaaf) before The Comet (Al-Taareq)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ Nay! I swear by this city. 1 this land in which thou art free to dwell 2 And the parent and the offspring, 3 We have certainly created man into hardship. 4 Does he think then that no one has power over him? 5 He may say (boastfully); Wealth have I squandered in abundance! 6 Does he, then, think that no one sees him? 7 Did We not give him two eyes, 8 And a tongue, and a pair of lips?- 9 And shown unto him the two highways? 10 But he hath made no haste on the path that is steep. 11 Would that you knew what Aqaba is! 12 The freeing of a slave, 13 And to feed in the day of hunger. 14 to an orphan near of kin 15 Or to the poor man lying in the dust. 16 the believers who cooperate with others in patience (steadfastness) and kindness. 17 These are the people of the right. 18 As for those who disbelieve in Our revelations, they are the people of the left 19 who will be engulfed in the fire. 20
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
