The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
Proclaim! (or read!) in the name of thy Lord and Cherisher, Who created- 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Read and your Lord is Most Honorable, 3 Who taught by the pen, 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 Nay, but man doth transgress all bounds, 6 That he thinketh himself independent! 7 Indeed towards your Lord only is the return. 8 Have you seen him who restrains 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 Tell me, if he (Muhammad (Peace be upon him)) is on the guidance (of Allah)? 11 or enjoins true piety? 12 Have you thought that if he denies and turns away, 13 Does he not know that God sees? 14 And yet indeed if he does not desist We shall drag him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinful forelock! 16 Then, let him call upon his council (of helpers), 17 We will call on the angels of punishment (to deal with him)! 18 No indeed; do thou not obey him, and bow thyself, and draw nigh. ۩ 19
