۞ Gather together those who were unjust and their associates, and what they used to worship 22 besides God, and show them the way of hell. 23 and detain them there; they will be called to account. 24 "How is it that [now] you cannot succour one another?" 25 Nay, but on that Day they would willingly surrender [to God]; 26 They will turn to each other saying, 27 Saying: "It were you who imposed yourselves upon us." 28 But they reply: 'Rather, you were not believers. 29 We had no power over you. You were a rebellious people, 30 “So the Word of our Lord has proved true upon us; we will surely have to taste (the punishment).” 31 Therefore we perverted you, and we ourselves were perverts.' 32 Then verily, that Day, they will (all) share in the torment. 33 Verily We! in this wise We deal with the culprits. 34 They were the ones, who on being told, "God is only One," become puffed-up with pride 35 and said: “Shall we forsake our deities for the sake of a distracted poet?” 36 Rather, the Prophet has come with the truth and confirmed the [previous] messengers. 37 you shall surely taste the painful punishment, 38 You will only be recompensed according to your deeds.” 39 But the sincere servants of God 40 shall have a known provision -- 41 as the fruits [of their life on earth]; and honoured shall they be 42 In gardens of pleasure 43 Facing one another on thrones. 44 a cup from a spring being passed round to them, 45 white, a delight to the drinkers, 46 no headiness will be in it, and they will not get drunk thereon. 47 And with them shall be damsels of refraining looks, large-eyed 48 As if they were eggs carefully protected. 49 So one among them turns to the other, questioning. – 50 One of them will say: 'I had a companion 51 Who said: art thou of those who confess to the doctrine of Resurrection: 52 When we are dead and have become dust and bones, are we indeed going to be requited? 53 (The man) said: "Will you look down?" 54 So he looked down and saw him in the midst of the Fire. 55 He will say, "By God! You almost brought me to ruin! 56 "Had it not been for the Grace of my Lord, I would certainly have been among those brought forth (to Hell)." 57 Are we not then to die 58 except for our first death? Are we not going to be punished? 59 Verily this is the supreme achievement! 60 It is for the like of this that all should strive. 61 Is that the better entertainment or the Tree of Zaqqum? 62 Which We have reserved as punishment for evil-doers? 63 Surely it is a tree that-grows in the bottom of the hell; 64 its spathes are as the heads of Satans, 65 (The people of Hell) will surely eat of it, filling their bellies with it. 66 Washing it down with boiling water. 67 then their return is to Hell. 68 They found their father going astray 69 Yet they hasten to follow in their footsteps. 70 And assuredly many of the ancients went astray before them, 71 But We sent aforetime, among them, (messengers) to admonish them;- 72 See how terrible was the end of those who were warned. 73 Not so the chosen servants of God. 74
