The Romans (Al-Room)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ Alif-Laam-Meem. (Alphabets of the Arabic language – Allah, and to whomever He reveals, know their precise meanings.) 1 The Byzantines have been defeated 2 In the nearby land, and after their defeat they will soon be victorious. 3 In some few years. Allah's is the command, before and after. And on that day the believers will rejoice. 4 With the help of Allah. He helps whom He will, and He is exalted in might, most merciful. 5 It is a promise of God; and God does not go back on His promise. Yet most men do not understand: 6 People simply know the outward aspect of the worldly life but are utterly heedless of the Hereafter. 7 Ponder they not in their minds: Allah hath not created the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain save with a purpose and for a term appointed? And verily many men in the meeting of their Lord are unbelievers. 8 Have they not travelled on the earth and seen how the others before them had met their end? They were far more powerful than them, furrowed the earth and colonised it far more than they; and their apostles came to them with visible signs. It was surely not for God to wrong them, they wronged themselves. 9 Therefore evil was the end of those who did evil, for they denied the signs of God and made fun of them. 10
