The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Read: In the name of thy Lord Who createth, 1 Hath created man from a clot! 2 Recite: and your Lord is Most Generous, 3 who taught by the Pen, 4 taught man what he did not know! 5 No indeed; surely Man waxes insolent, 6 whenever he believes himself to be self-sufficient: 7 Indeed, to your Lord is the return. 8 Seest thou one who forbids- 9 A servant when he prays? 10 What is your opinion – if he were upon guidance, 11 or bade to godfearing -- 12 Do you see how he has denied the truth and turned away from it? 13 Knoweth he not that Allah beholdeth? 14 Nay! If he (Abu Jahl) ceases not, We will catch him by the forelock, 15 A lying, sinning forelock. 16 Then let him call his associates; 17 We shall call on the guards of Hell. 18 No indeed! Do not obey him, but prostrate yourself and come closer to God. ۩ 19
