Surely the people of al-Hijr also rejected the Messengers, calling them liars. 80 We sent them Our Signs, but they persisted in turning away from them. 81 They carved out dwellings in the mountains, and lived in security -- 82 But the (Awful) Cry overtook them at the morning hour, 83 and that which they had earned did not help them. 84 We have not created but with reason the heavens and the earth and all that lies within them. The Hour (of the great change) is certain to come. So turn away (from them) with a grace. 85 Verify thy Lord! He is the Great Creator, the Knower. 86 And We have bestowed upon thee the Seven Oft-repeated (verses) and the Grand Qur'an. 87 Do not strain your eyes after what We have given certain classes of them to enjoy, and do not grieve for them, and make yourself gentle to the believers. 88 and say: "Behold, I am indeed the plain warner [promised by God]! 89 So We sent it down to the partitioners, 90 those who had split up their Qur'an into pieces. 91 so by your Lord, We will question them all 92 concerning what they have been doing. 93 Hence, proclaim openly all that thou hast been bidden [to say,] and leave alone all those who ascribe divinity to aught beside God: 94 verily, We shall suffice thee against all who [now] deride [this message - all] 95 and believe other things to be equal to God. They will soon know the truth. 96 Indeed, We know that your breast is straitened at what they say. 97 Proclaim thy Lord's praise, and be of those that bow, 98 And worship thy Lord until there cometh unto thee the certainty. 99
