They will ask you about Dhu'l-Qarnayn. Say, "I will give you an account of him." 83 Verily, We established him in the earth, and We gave him the means of everything. 84 and he followed a way 85 Until, when he reached the setting place of the sun, he found it setting in a spring of black muddy (or hot) water. And he found near it a people. We (Allah) said (by inspiration): "O Dhul-Qarnain! Either you punish them, or treat them with kindness." 86 He submitted, “Regarding one who has done injustice, we shall soon punish him – he will then be brought back to his Lord, Who will punish him severely.” 87 but whoever believes and does good works shall have a good reward and We shall facilitate his matter by Our command." 88 Then he followed a road 89 Until, when he came to the rising of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had not made against it any shield. 90 So, We encompassed in knowledge what was with him. 91 Then he followed a road 92 Until, when he reached between two mountains, he found, before (near) them (those two mountains), a people who scarcely understood a word. 93 They said, "Dhu 'l-Qarnayn, Gog and Magog are ravaging this land. Would you establish a barrier between us and them if we pay you a certain tax?" 94 He said: That in which my Lord has established me is better, therefore you only help me with workers, I will make a fortified barrier between you and them; 95 Bring me ingots of iron." Then after he had filled up the space between the two mountain-sides, he said: "(Light a fire) and ply bellows." When he had made it (red like) fire, he said: "Bring me molten copper which I may pour on it." 96 So Gog and Magog were unable to pass over it, nor were they able [to effect] in it any penetration. 97 [Dhul-Qarnayn] said, "This is a mercy from my Lord; but when the promise of my Lord comes, He will make it level, and ever is the promise of my Lord true." 98 ۞ On that day, We will let them surge on one another, and the Horn shall be blown, and We will gather them all together. 99 On that Day We shall lay Hell bare before those who deny the truth, 100 Unto those whose eyes had been under a covering from My remembrance, nor had they been able to hear. 101
