۞ To Abraham We gave the right guidance and We knew him very well. 51 When he said to his father and his people: "What are these images, to which you are devoted?" 52 They said, 'We found our fathers serving them.' 53 He said, “Indeed you all – you and your forefathers – were in open error.” 54 They said: "Are you expressing your true ideas before us or are you jesting?" 55 He said: "Nay, but your Lord is the Lord of the heavens and the earth which He created and to that I bear witness before you. 56 And, by Allah, I shall circumvent your idols after ye have gone away and turned your backs. 57 So he broke them into fragments, all but a great one they had, for haply they would return to it. 58 They said: "Who has done this to our aliha (gods)? He must indeed be one of the wrong-doers." 59 They said, 'We heard a young man making mention of them, and he was called Abraham.' 60 They said, "Then bring him here in the sight of all the people, so that they may act as witnesses." 61 'Abraham' they said, 'was it you who did this to our gods' 62 He said, "Rather, this - the largest of them - did it, so ask them, if they should [be able to] speak." 63 So they turned towards their own selves and (inwardly) said, “Indeed you yourselves are unjust.” 64 Again they were inverted upon their heads; saying, “You know well that these do not speak.” 65 He said, "Do you, instead of God, worship things that can neither harm nor benefit you?" 66 Fie upon you and upon that which ye worship beside Allah! Will ye not then reflect? 67 They said: Burn him and help your gods, if you are going to do (anything). 68 "Turn cold, O fire," We said, "and give safety to Abraham." 69 And they intended to do him an evil, but We made them the worst losers. 70 And We delivered him and Lut to the land wherein We had placed Our blessings for the worlds. 71 And We bestowed upon him Isaac and [Isaac's son] Jacob as an additional gift and caused all of them to be righteous men, 72 And We made them leaders who guide by Our command, and We sent them the divine revelation to do good deeds and to keep the prayer established and to give charity; and they used to worship Us. 73 To Lot We gave wisdom and knowledge and delivered him from the city which practiced abomination. They were indeed a wicked people. 74 And We admitted him into Our mercy. Verily he was of the righteous. 75
