And lo! it is a revelation of the Lord of the Worlds, 192 The honest Spirit (Gabriel) brought it down 193 To (communicate) to your heart that you may be a warner 194 in a clear, Arabic tongue. 195 And lo! it is in the Scriptures of the men of old. 196 Was it not a proof for them that the learned men of Israel knew about this? 197 And if We had revealed it unto one of any other nation than the Arabs, 198 and had he recited it unto them [in his own tongue,] they would not have believed in it. 199 Even so We have caused it to enter into the hearts of the sinners, 200 they will not believe in it until they see the grievous punishment. 201 And it will come to them suddenly while they perceive [it] not. 202 They will say, "Can we be granted any respite?" 203 Do they want to hasten Our punishment? 204 Therefore observe, that if We give them some comforts for some years, – 205 and then the promised punishment fell upon them, 206 Of what avail shall their enjoyment be to them? 207 Never have We destroyed a town without sending down messengers to warn it, 208 To advise; and We never oppress. 209 No evil ones have brought down this (Revelation): 210 And it behoves them not, and they have not the power to do (it). 211 Lo! verily they are banished from the hearing. 212 So do not call on any deity besides God, lest you incur His punishment. 213 And warn [whomever thou canst reach, beginning with] thy kinsfolk, 214 And spread your wing of mercy for the believers following you. 215 Then if they disobey you, say: "I am innocent of what you do." 216 And put thy trust in the Mighty, the Merciful. 217 Who seeth thee standing forth (in prayer), 218 And (seeth) thine abasement among those who fall prostrate (in worship). 219 Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. 220 [And] shall I tell you upon whom it is that those evil spirits descend? 221 They descend upon every calumniator, sinner. 222 The satans try to listen to the heavens but many of them are liars. 223 Only the erring people follow the poets. 224 See you not that they speak about every subject (praising others right or wrong) in their poetry? 225 And that they say what they do not do? - 226 Not so the true believers who do good works and remember God with fervour and defend themselves only after they are wronged. The wrongdoers will soon know how evil a turn their affairs will take. 227
