Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
O you who wraps himself [in clothing], 1 Arise [to pray] the night, except for a little - 2 It may be half the night or a little less than that 3 and recite the Quran in a distinct tone; 4 We shall soon entrust to you a message heavy (with solemnity). 5 Lo! the vigil of the night is (a time) when impression is more keen and speech more certain. 6 Surely you have in the day time a long occupation. 7 But keep in remembrance the name of thy Lord and devote thyself to Him whole-heartedly. 8 Lord of the East and Lord of the West – there is no God except Him, therefore make Him your sole Trustee of affairs. 9 and endure with patience whatever people may say [against thee,] and avoid them with a comely avoidance. 10 Leave it to Me to deal with the deniers, who live a life of comfort, and bear with them a little longer. 11 Indeed, with Us [for them] are shackles and burning fire 12 choking food and a painful punishment. 13 (They will come across all this) on the Day when the earth and the mountains shall tremble violently and the mountains shall crumble into heaps of scattered sand. 14 Surely We have sent to you a Messenger as a witness over you, just as We had sent a Messenger to Pharaoh. 15 However, the Pharaoh disobeyed the Messenger and We seized him with a severe retribution. 16 How, then, if you refuse to acknowledge the truth, will you protect yourselves on that Day which shall turn the hair of children grey, 17 Whereon the sky will be cleft asunder? His Promise needs must be accomplished. 18 Surely this is a Reminder; so let him who will take unto his Lord a way. 19
