۞ [And God will thus command:] "Assemble all those who were bent on evildoing, together with others of their ilk and [with] all that they were wont to worship 22 Other than God," (the angels will be told), "then show them the way to Hell, 23 And halt them, to be questioned: 24 "What is the matter with you? Why do you not help one another (as you used to do in the world)?" 25 Nay, but this day they make full submission. 26 and approach each other with questions, 27 They will say, "Indeed, you used to come at us from the right." 28 The oppressors will say, "Rather, you [yourselves] were not believers, 29 we had no power over you; but you yourselves were a rebellious people. 30 So the sentence of our Lord has come to pass against us: (now) we shall surely taste; 31 So we led you astray; we ourselves were strayed.” 32 So all of them on that day are sharers in the chastisement. 33 that is how We deal with evil-doers. 34 Verily when it was said unto them: there is no god but Allah, they ever grew stiff-necked. 35 And to say: What! shall we indeed give up our gods for the sake of a mad poet? 36 In fact he has brought the Truth, and testified for the Noble Messengers! 37 Verily, you (pagans of Makkah) are going to taste the painful torment; 38 but you shall not be recompensed except for what you were doing. 39 Except for God's sincere servants; 40 For them there will be a known provision (in Paradise). 41 a variety of delicious fruits; and they shall be honoured 42 In Gardens of peace. 43 On couches, facing one another. 44 A bowl shall be made to go round them from water running out of springs, 45 White, delicious to the drinkers, 46 but not harmful or intoxicating. 47 And with them maidens of modest look and large lustrous eyes, 48 As if they were [delicate] eggs, well-protected. 49 And they will approach one another, inquiring of each other. 50 One of them speaks thus: "Behold, I had [on earth] a close companion 51 Who would say, 'Are you indeed of those who believe 52 That when we have died and become dust and bones, we will indeed be recompensed?'" 53 [And] he adds: "Would you like to look [and see him]?" 54 Then he will look downwards, and will see him in the depths of Hell. 55 He will say, "By God! You almost brought me to ruin! 56 But for Allah's favour, I should be one of those who have been mustered here. 57 Is it then that we are not going to die, 58 [again,] beyond our previous death, and that we shall never [again] be made to suffer? 59 Verily this is the supreme achievement! 60 For the like of this, then, let the workers work. 61 Is Paradise a better accommodation or the tree of zaqqum? 62 For We have truly made it (as) a trial for the wrong-doers. 63 for, behold, it is a tree that grows in the very heart of the blazing fire [of hell,] 64 its spathes are like the heads of satans 65 They will eat and fill their bellies with it, 66 Washing it down with boiling water. 67 Then most surely their return shall be to hell. 68 They had indeed found their forefathers astray. 69 and they are running in their footsteps. 70 And assuredly there went stray before them many of the ancients. 71 and We had sent among them Messengers to warn them. 72 Then see the nature of the consequence for those warned, 73 Save the bondmen of Allah sincere. 74
