And whosoever blindeth himself to the admonition of the Compassionate, We assign unto him a satan, and he becometh his companion. 36 whereupon, behold, these [evil impulses] bar all such from the path [of truth,] making them think that they are guided aright! 37 At length, when (such a one) comes to Us, he says (to his evil companion): "Would that between me and thee were the distance of East and West!" Ah! evil is the companion (indeed)! 38 And it will profit you not today, because ye have done wrong, that ye are in the torment sharers. 39 Can you, (O Prophet), then make the deaf hear, or direct to the Right Way the blind or one lost in manifest error? 40 But whether We do [or do not] take thee away [ere thy message prevails] - verily, We shall inflict Our retribution on them; 41 Or We shall show thee that (accomplished) which We have promised them: for verily We shall prevail over them. 42 Therefore, hold fast to that which is revealed to you, indeed, you are on the Straight Path. 43 it is certainly a reminder to you and to your people and you will soon be called to account. 44 Ask those of Our Messengers We sent before thee: Have We appointed, apart from the All-merciful, gods to be served? 45
