Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
Ha Mim 1 CONSIDER this divine writ, clear in itself and clearly showing the truth! 2 Lo! We revealed it on a blessed night - Lo! We are ever warning - 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 by Our command. Verily, We were set to send a Messenger 5 A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Nay, but they play in doubt. 9 Therefore keep waiting for the day when the heaven shall bring an evident smoke, 10 Covering the people, this is a painful torment. 11 O our Sustainer, relieve us of suffering, for, verily, we [now] believe [in Thee]!" 12 How will there be for them a reminder [at that time]? And there had come to them a clear Messenger. 13 And they had turned away from him and said: One taught (by others), a madman? 14 We shall indeed remove the Penalty for a while, (but) truly ye will revert (to your ways). 15 The Day We will strike with the greatest assault, indeed, We will take retribution. 16 ۞ And verily We tried before them Pharaoh's folk, when there came unto them a noble messenger, 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 And he called to his Lord, saying, 'These are a sinful people.' 22 (He was told): “Set out with My servants by night for you will certainly be pursued. 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 [And so they perished: and] how many gardens did they leave behind, and water-runnels, 25 And cornfields and noble places! 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 Thus (it was)! And We made other people inherit them (i.e. We made the Children of Israel to inherit the kingdom of Egypt). 28 So the heaven and the earth did not weep for them, nor were they respited. 29

Notes and Instructions
When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
