The Night (Al-Layl)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By oath of the night when it covers 1 And by the day as it appears in brightness; 2 And [by] He who created the male and female, 3 Your striving is most surely (directed to) various (ends). 4 So he who gives (in charity) and fears (Allah), 5 and believes in the finest, 6 Surely We will ease his way unto the state of ease. 7 But as for him who hoardeth and deemeth himself independent, 8 And denied the best matter, 9 for him shall We make easy the path towards hardship: 10 nor will his wealth profit him when he falls [into the pit]. 11 BEHOLD, it is indeed for Us to grace [you] with guidance; 12 And lo! unto Us belong the latter portion and the former. 13 I therefore warn you of the fire that is ablaze. 14 None will [enter to] burn therein except the most wretched one. 15 who belied and turned away, 16 For, distant from it shall remain he who is truly conscious of God: 17 Who gives his wealth in order to be pure. 18 They do not expect any reward 19 Other than seeking the glory of his Lord, most high, 20 And he is going to be satisfied. 21
