The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the star when it setteth. 1 Your Companion is neither astray nor being misled. 2 nor does he speak out of his desire. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 When he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he approached and descended 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
