The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 It is but a revelation revealed. 4 something that a very powerful one has imparted to him, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 And He revealed to His servant what He revealed. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 close to the Garden of Refuge. 15 When the lote-tree was being enveloped, by whatever around it. 16 The sight did not shift, nor did it cross the limits. 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 And another, the third (goddess), Manat? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
