The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 until he was two bows' length away, or nearer. 9 and revealed to God's servant what he revealed. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 Is the male for you and for Him the female? 21 This is certainly an unjust apportioning. 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
