These (people of the right hand) consist of many from the ancient 39 and a multitude of the later people. 40 As for the Companions of the Left 41 [They will find themselves] in the midst of scorching winds, and burning despair, 42 And shadow of black smoke, 43 which will neither be cool nor soothing. 44 Indeed they were among favours before this. 45 and would persist in heinous sinning, 46 And they were wont to say: when we have died and become dust and bones, shall we, then, verily be raised? 47 What, and our fathers, the ancients' 48 Proclaim, “Without doubt all – the former and the latter.” 49 Shall most surely be gathered together for the appointed hour of a known day. 50 "Then moreover, verily, you the erring-ones, the deniers (of Resurrection)! 51 Most surely eat of a tree of Zaqqoom, 52 And filling with it your bellies 53 and will thereupon have to drink [many a draught] of burning despair 54 and you will drink as the lapping of thirsty camels. 55 That will be their entertainment on the Day of Recompense! 56 We have created you, so why do you not believe? 57 Behold! that which ye emit. 58 Is it you who create it - or are We the source of its creation? 59 It was We who decreed death among you. We will not be surpassed 60 in replacing you with another creation like you, changing you into a form which you do not know. 61 You have known the first growth; so why will you not remember? 62 Have you considered the soil you till? 63 is it you that sow it, or are We the Sower? 64 We could turn it, if We pleased, into straw; then you would rue the day, 65 Surely we are burdened with debt: 66 nay, we are deprived [altogether]." 67 Consider the water that you drink. 68 Is it you who cause it from the rainclouds to come down, or are We the Causer of it to come down? 69 We could make it brackish, if We pleased; so why do you not acknowledge thanks? 70 Have you thought about the fire that you kindle. 71 Was it ye who made the tree thereof to grow, or were We the grower? 72 We, even We, appointed it a memorial and a comfort for the dwellers in the wilderness. 73 So glorify the name of your Lord, the Supreme. 74
