Overwhelming (Al-Ghaasheyah)
26 verses, revealed in Mecca after Drivers of the Winds (Al-Dhaareyaat) before The Cave (Al-Kahf)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Has not there come to you the news of the overwhelming calamity? 1 Some faces, that Day, will be humiliated, 2 Labouring, striving hard. 3 Entering into burning fire, 4 They will be given drink from a boiling spring. 5 They shall have no food but of thorns, 6 Which will neither fatten nor avail against hunger. 7 However, on that day the faces of other people will be happy. 8 well pleased with their striving, 9 in a Garden on high, 10 where they will hear no idle talk. 11 There is a stream of running water in it; 12 And within it are couches placed on high, 13 And goblets ready placed! 14 and cushions arrayed 15 And carpets spread out. 16 So do they not see the camel - how it has been created? 17 And the heavens, how it was raised high; 18 And at the mountains - how they are erected? 19 And at the Earth, how it is spread out? 20 Therefore do remind, for you are only a reminder. 21 You are not charged to oversee them. 22 However, those who turn away and disbelieve, 23 will be punished by God with the greatest punishment. 24 Indeed, to Us is their return. 25 Then, surely, it is for Us to call them to account. 26
True are the words of Allah the Almighty.
