Dawn (Al-Fajr)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the break of Day 1 And [by] ten nights 2 And the even and the odd, 3 And by oath of the night when it recedes 4 Is there in that an oath for a mindful man? 5 Have you not heard how your Lord dealt with Aad? 6 With many-columned Iram, 7 the like of whom has never been reared in all the land? 8 and with the Thamud, who cut out [huge] rocks in the valley, 9 And (with) Firon, the lord of hosts, 10 who all were insolent in the land 11 and brought about great corruption therein: 12 Then their Lord unloosed upon them the lash of chastisement. 13 Your Lord is certainly in wait. 14 As for man, whenever his Lord tries him, and honours him, and blesses him, then he says, 'My Lord has honoured me.' 15 However, when his Lord tests him by a measured amount of sustenance, he says, "God has disgraced me". 16 But nay, nay, [O men, consider all that you do and fail to do:] you are not generous towards the orphan, 17 Nor do ye encourage one another to feed the poor!- 18 And devour the inheritance devouring greedily, 19 And you love wealth with immense love. 20 No! But when the earth quakes and is pounded, 21 and thy Lord comes, and the angels rank on rank, 22 and Hell is made to appear on that Day, then man will be mindful, but what will being mindful then avail him? 23 He will say: would that I had sent before for this life of mine! 24 So on that Day, none will punish as He will punish. 25 none shall bind as He binds. 26 'O soul at peace, 27 return to your Lord, well-pleased, well-pleasing. 28 So enter among My servants, 29 into My Paradise. 30
