The Sun (Al-Shams)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By oath of the sun and its light 1 And by oath of the moon when it follows the sun 2 by the day, when it displays it, 3 And by the night as it conceals it (the sun); 4 The heavens and its architecture, 5 And by oath of the earth and by oath of Him Who spread it. 6 Consider the human self, and how it is formed in accordance with what it is meant to be, 7 And inspired in it the knowledge of its sins and its piety. 8 Indeed he succeeds who purifies his ownself (i.e. obeys and performs all that Allah ordered, by following the true Faith of Islamic Monotheism and by doing righteous good deeds). 9 And miserable is he who hath buried it. 10 Samood gave the lie (to the truth) in their inordinacy, 11 when the most wicked of them broke forth, 12 then the Messenger of God said to them, 'The She-camel of God; let her drink!' 13 But they cried him lies, and hamstrung her, so their Lord crushed them for their sin, and leveled them: 14 He has no fear of its sequel. 15
