The Embryo (Al-Alaq)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Recite in the name of your Lord who created - 1 created man from a clot of congealed blood. 2 Read: And thy Lord is the Most Bounteous, 3 who taught by the pen, 4 Taught man what he knew not. 5 Nay, verily, man becomes grossly overweening 6 for he thinks himself self-sufficient. 7 Surely to your Lord is your return. 8 Bethinkest thou him who forbiddeth, 9 A bondman of Ours when he prayeth 10 Bethinkest thou, if he is himself guided, 11 Or enjoins piety? 12 Hast thou considered whether he may [not] be giving the lie to the truth and turning his back [upon it]? 13 Does he not know that Allah sees everything? 14 Yes certainly, if he does not desist, We will seize him by the forelock. 15 The lying, sinful forelock - 16 So let him call his associates, 17 We will call the guards of hell. 18 Nay, heed him not: But bow down in adoration, and bring thyself the closer (to Allah)! ۩ 19
