Unknown Person (Al-Muzzammil)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
O THOU enwrapped one! 1 Keep vigil the night long, save a little - 2 A half of it or a little less 3 Or increase a little upon it, and recite the Qur’an slowly in stages. 4 Soon shall We send down to thee a weighty Message. 5 Truly the rising by night is most potent for governing (the soul), and most suitable for (framing) the Word (of Prayer and Praise). 6 You have by day prolonged occupations. 7 But keep in remembrance the name of thy Lord and devote thyself to Him whole-heartedly. 8 He is the Lord of the East and the West. There is no god but He. So take Him alone as your protector. 9 And bear patiently the vain things they utter, and gracefully forsake them. 10 And leave Me (alone to deal with) those in possession of the good things of life, who (yet) deny the Truth; and bear with them for a little while. 11 Surely with Us are heavy fetters and a flaming fire, 12 And a food that choketh and a torment afflictive. 13 upon the day when the earth and the mountains shall quake and the mountains become a slipping heap of sand. 14 Verily We! We have sent unto you an apostle, a witness over you, even as We sent unto Fir'awn an apostle. 15 Then Fir'awn disobeyed the apostle, wherefore We laid hold of him with a painful hold. 16 Then how, if ye disbelieve, will ye protect yourselves upon the day which will turn children grey, 17 On that day, the heavens will be rent asunder. This is the decree of God which has already been ordained. 18 This, verily, is a reminder: let him who wills, then set out on a way to his Sustainer! 19
