He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ HE FROWNED AND turned away, 1 that the blind man came to him. 2 for how can you know that he might seek to purify himself, 3 Or that he might receive admonition, and the teaching might profit him? 4 Now as for him who believes himself to be self-sufficient 5 to him didst thou give thy whole attention, 6 though it is not thy concern, if he does not cleanse himself. 7 but as for one who comes to you, eagerly 8 and fearfully, 9 You neglect. 10 No! Indeed, these verses are a reminder; 11 For any one who desires to bear it in mind, 12 (Contained) in honoured pages, 13 Exalted, pure. 14 By the hands of scribes. 15 noble and pious. 16 May man be slain – how ungrateful he is! 17 Of what thing hath He created him? 18 Out of a drop of sperm! He creates and proportions him, 19 then the way eased for him, 20 Then causeth him to die, and burieth him; 21 Then, when He willed, He brought him out. (As during the night of Holy Prophet’s ascension, when all the Prophets gathered behind him in the Al Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem. Or when Allah will raise everyone on the Day of Resurrection.) 22 Not one – he has not yet completed what he was commanded. 23 Let man look at his food: 24 That We pour down the water, pouring (it) down in abundance, 25 and let the earth to break open 26 And We cause therein the grain to grow, 27 grapes, vegetables, 28 and olive trees and date palms 29 And enclosed gardens luxuriant. 30 and fruits and fodder 31 A provision for you and your cattle. 32 But when there comes the Deafening Blast 33 The day on which a man shall fly from his brother, 34 his mother and his father, 35 And from his wife and his children. 36 on that Day every man among them will have enough concern of his own -- 37 Some faces on that day will be radiant, 38 laughing, and rejoicing, 39 And many a face will be covered with dust on that day. 40 and covered by darkness. 41 These are they who are unbelievers, the wicked. 42
