A 'araaf (Al-A 'araaf)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ Alif. Lam. Mim. 1 A DIVINE WRIT has been bestowed from on high upon thee - and let there be no doubt about this in thy heart - in order that thou mayest warn [the erring] thereby, and [thus] admonish the believers: 2 Follow what has been revealed to you from your Lord and do not follow guardians besides Him, how little do you mind. 3 And how many a town that We destroyed, so Our punishment came to it by night or while they slept at midday. 4 No cry did they utter when Our Torment came upon them but this: "Verily, we were Zalimun (polytheists and wrong-doers, etc.)". 5 So undoubtedly We shall question those to whom Our Noble Messengers went, and indeed We shall question the Noble Messengers. 6 with full knowledge, We shall tell them what they did, for We have never been away from them. 7 And the measuring out on that day will be just; then as for him whose measure (of good deeds) is heavy, those are they who shall be successful; 8 And as for those whose scale will be light, they are those who will lose their ownselves (by entering Hell) because they denied and rejected Our Ayat (proofs, evidences, verses, lessons, signs, revelations, etc.). 9 YEA, INDEED, [O men,] We have given you a [bountiful] place on earth, and appointed thereon means of livelihood for you: [yet] how seldom are you grateful! 10
