Samood gave the lie to the apostles 141 when their brother Salih said unto them: "Will you not be conscious of God? 142 Verily I am unto you an apostle trusted. 143 so fear you God, and obey you me.' 144 And I ask of you no hire therefor; MY hire is but with the Lord of the worlds. 145 Will ye be left secure in that which is here before us, 146 among gardens and fountains, 147 "And corn-fields and date-palms with spathes near breaking (with the weight of fruit)? 148 hewing out houses in the mountains and taking pride in your skill? 149 Have fear of God and obey me. 150 Do not obey the orders of the transgressors 151 who corrupt in the earth, and do not reform' 152 They said, 'Thou art merely one of those that are bewitched; 153 "Thou art no more than a mortal like us: then bring us a Sign, if thou tellest the truth!" 154 (Saleh) said: "Here is a she-camel. She has a right of drinking water, and you have a right of drinking it on appointed turns. 155 and do not touch her with malice so that there seize you the chastisement of a dreadful day.' 156 But they hamstrung her; and on the morrow were repentant, 157 The punishment therefore seized them; indeed in this is a sign; and most of them were not believers. 158 But, verily, thy Sustainer - He alone - is almighty, a dispenser of grace! 159
