The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains will be powdered to dust. 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And those on the left hand; how miserable shall those on the left hand be! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A multitude of those of old 13 and a few from later times. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 No empty talk will they hear there, nor any call to sin, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 As for the people of the right hand, how happy they will be! 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and clustered bananas, 29 And spreading shade, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 and an abundance of fruits, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And exalted thrones. 34 We have created (their Companions) of special creation. 35 So made them as maidens. 36 The beloved of their husbands, of one age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
