Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
Ha'. Mim. 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 We have indeed sent it down in a blessed night – indeed it is We Who warn. 3 Therein is decreed every affair of wisdom 4 As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending - 5 as a Mercy from your Lord. Surely He is All-Hearing, All-Seeing, 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 Nay! They play in doubt. 9 But watch thou (O Muhammad) for the day when the sky will produce visible smoke 10 engulfing the people; this will be a painful punishment. 11 Lord, remove this torment from us for we are believers". 12 How could this punishment bring them to their senses when a Messenger evidently had come to them, 13 Then they turned away from him and said, "[He was] taught [and is] a madman." 14 Surely We will remove the punishment a little, (but) you will surely return (to evil). 15 One day We shall seize you with a mighty onslaught: We will indeed (then) exact Retribution! 16 ۞ And assuredly afore them We proved Fir'awn's people, and there came unto them an apostle honoured. 17 (and said): “Deliver to me Allah's servants. I am a trustworthy Messenger to you, 18 and do not exalt yourselves in defiance of Allah. I have come to you with a clear authority (as a Messenger). 19 I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me [to death]. 20 And if you do not believe me, then leave me' 21 Then he cried out to his Lord, "These are sinful people." 22 "Journey by night with My devotees," (it was said); "you will certainly be pursued. 23 (Cross and) leave the sea undisturbed. The (pursuing) hosts will surely be drowned," 24 How many of the gardens and fountains have they left! 25 and sown fields and splendid mansions, 26 And comforts of life wherein they used to take delight! 27 That is what We did; and We made another nation their heirs. 28 And the heavens and the earth wept not for them, nor were they given a respite. 29
