The Mountain (Al-Toor)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 And the Book written 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 by the Visited House, 4 and by the lofty vault of the sky, 5 and the sea swarming, 6 the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place 7 There is none who could avert it. 8 On the Day when the heaven will shake with a dreadful shaking, 9 The mountains move and fly away, 10 Then woe that Day to the beliers; 11 Those who in wading sport themselves. 12 On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), 13 (it will be said to them): 'This is the Fire which you belied! 14 Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? 15 Roast in it, bear it with or without patience, it is the same, you are only being recompensed for that which you used to do' 16 Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. 20 And those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds. 21 We shall provide them with fruits and the meat of the kind which they desire. 22 They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill. 23 ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. 24 And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 God has been gracious to us and has saved us from the torment of Hell's intense heat -- 27 “Indeed we used to worship Him in our previous life; indeed He only is the Benign, the Most Merciful.” 28
